RRSP Contribution Calculator — questions
What is the RRSP contribution limit for 2026?
New RRSP room is 18% of your prior-year earned income, up to a maximum of $33,810 for 2026, minus any pension adjustment. Unused room from past years is added on top.
How is RRSP room calculated?
Take 18% of last year’s earned income, cap it at the annual maximum, subtract any pension adjustment, then add any unused room carried forward from previous years.
What counts as earned income for RRSP?
Mainly employment income, net self-employment income, and net rental income. Investment income and most pension income do not count.
RRSP or TFSA — which should I use first?
It depends on your tax bracket now versus in retirement. Higher earners often favour the RRSP for the up-front deduction; the TFSA is more flexible. Many people use both.
